After getting a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office made sure to check the case of 57-year-old Marty Scott Bass.
Bass got a visit from the police last Dec. 16 and appeared aware of what was going to happen next. He greeted deputies with a shotgun in hand, something that made his case even worse. He was eventually prevailed to put down the weapon at his home at 7105 Rock Hill Road in DeFuniak Springs after SWAT team members demanded him to do so.
Police immediately got hold of his phone and found more than 100 images of child porn on it. Some of them included photos produced by Bass himself, victims aged between 8 to 10 years old.
With a search warrant at hand, deputies went on to search the premises of Bass. They were surprised to find a bunker hidden in a shed next to the house with the entrance masterfully disguised as a bench blocking a hole leading underground.
Authorities are now investigating if Bass had used the secret underground space to produce the child porn images on his phone.
The two startling discoveries have put the 57-year-old facing several counts tied to child pornography. He is charged with 10 counts of production of child pornography and 100 counts of possession of child pornography. He is now under the custody of authorities and held on a $1 million bond. Per records, Bass does not appear to have a lawyer as of this writing.
Aside from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office is thanking the FDLE, Homeland Security Investigations, Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, and Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office who helped them execute the search warrant.
