Paul Walker has died at the age of 40 after a horrific car accident in southern California. The actor best known for starring in the series of "The Fast and the Furious" films died Saturday, Nov. 30 after he was involved in a single-car accident and explosion in the city of Santa Clarita, TMZ is reporting. Walker was a passenger in a Porsche when the driver lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a post or tree. The car then burst into flames where the actor and an unidentified companion lost their lives. Paul Walker's death has been made official via a statement on the actor's official Facebook page that reads, "It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. He was a passenger in a friend's car, in which both lost their lives. We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences. - #TeamPW"

Paul Walker was in Santa Clarita for a car show to support the Philippines typhoon relief effort and he was taking friends out for drives in his new Porsche GT. The accident happened during one of the test drives. Walker was also busy promoting his upcoming movie "Hours" which is set to premiere on Dec. 13 where he stars alongside actress Genesis Rodriguez. In a recent interview, Walker revealed that his friendship with his "Fast and Furious" co-star Vin Diesel was just for the movies. "Vin and I are so east coast-meets-west coast, and we have different approaches to life. We found a respect for one another but we were such opposite ends of the spectrum," he told Wenn. "As for the girls, I legitimately love Jordana [Brewster]. We met when we were little kids hanging out on the first one ["Fast And The Furious"] when she was 17 years old. Michelle [Rodriguez] and I, we've been through it all. Michelle's like the most original person on the planet. She's so straight up, uncensored all the time. Be ready. I love her for that."

Paul Walker was born on September 12, 1973 in Glendale, California. The actor became prominent in Hollywood after appearing in films like "Meet The Deedles," "Varisty Blues," "She's All That," "Pleasantville" and "The Skulls." It was in 2001 that Walker brokeout when he starred in "The Fast and the Furious" as undercover LAPD officer Brian O'Conner that established him as a leading man and reprise his role in subsequent sequels.
