Patrick Stewart shocked the twitter world when he revealed through a tweet that he had consumed his first ever slice of pizza, at the age of 72!
The actor posted a photo of himself holding up a half-eaten pizza slice while sipping on a soda, he captioned the photo “My first ever pizza 'slice.' Please note: the authentic NY fold.”
With the world shocked, Stewart explained his reasoning for indulging in his first ever pizza slice. In an interview with the New York Times, the "Star Trek" actor explains how he and his fiancée, Sunny Ozell, had enjoyed a booze-filled night out and needed something to cure their hangover.
“My fiancée and I were a little hung-over yesterday morning and she said what we need is pizza and a soothing drink — and she was right,” he explained. “It solved the problem.”
Now this is where the confusing part comes in, Stewart then revealed to the NYT that he had never had a “slice” of pizza but had actually had pizza before.
Uh…what?
“People misunderstood. There was a school of thought that I had eaten my first pizza, but of course how could that possibly be true? I would have had to have stayed locked up in a cellar,” he explained. “But nevertheless, this was my first slice of pizza ... and when it was brought over to me, my first comment was "There's no knife and fork."
So, don’t fret, Patrick Stewart has indeed had pizza before but we are still confused about his “first ever” tweet. Patrick continued to explain that due to his childhood in Mirfield in the West Riding of Yorkshire, England, he never encountered pizza restaurants.
The actor does admit that when he moved to the United States, he started eating pizza, but never just one slice. “I know, it's hard to understand, isn't it? But, you know, I would go in there and order a pizza and eat a whole pizza,” he explained. “It was the concept of the slice that I had never encountered before.” Ok… so now we get it. Patrick Stewart has eaten pizza before, he just experienced eating only one slice at age 73.
To clear the obvious conclusion Patrick took to twitter again to address his followers stunned responses and questions. He wrote: “To clarify: 1) I've never had a "slice" 2) I've been a Habs fan all of 4 weeks 3) I'm also a fan of Bloomberg's soda legislation.” Patrick is a relatively new resident to NYC, he has lived in Brooklyn since last summer, when he purchased a luxurious apartment in Park Slope. We are assuming that Patrick is going to start picking up more slices now that he is a Brooklyn resident.
