Harvey Weinstein was at the Toronto International Film Festival promoting "12.12.12," the Hurricane Sandy benefit concert film, and had an interesting revelation about that time he convinced Kristen Stewart to hang out with a prince who said he would make a large contribution to the Sandy relief effort if she would speak with him. Weinstein helped organize the major event and his company is the one behind releasing the documentary.
According to the movie mogul, "Twilight" actress Kristen Stewart raised a whopping $500,000 for the Sandy relief effort simply by sitting with a Middle Eastern Prince for a mere 15 minutes. Weinstein, who didn't reveal the prince's identity, recalled the incident during a press conference. Here's how he says it went down, according to the NY Times:
"How much?" Stewart asked, according to Weinstein. He checked with the prince, who proposed a figure, which Weinstein promptly raised to $500,000. The prince accepted and the money was delivered in advance, in cash, Weinstein said. Dolan [James Dolan, the chairman of Madison Square Garden] locked it up in Madison Square Garden, he said. "And Kristen sits with the guy for 15 minutes."
In addition to Stewart, Weinstein also recruited several other A-list celebrities to help out with the cause, including Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Mick Jagger and Bruce Springsteen, among others. The benefit ended up raising $30 million for relief efforts.
