A pastor from Limpopo, South Africa has a radical cure for the physical and spiritual ailments of his followers. The founder of Seven-Fold Holy Spirit Ministries, Christ Penelope has been the target of criticism due to his off-beat ‘healing’ methods that he subjects his followers to.
While the revolting act of sitting on one’s face and farting has sent the world reeling, his followers seem to be unphased. Devotees reportedly have a months-long waiting period to get farted on. Even with other preachers condemning the pastor’s methods, he claims that he is doing it for the benefit of the people he flatulates on.
Penelope proudly shares images of standing on his followers, sitting on their backs and faces. He shared images on Facebook of making an infant drink what appears to be wine. The preacher unabashedly markets himself on social media platforms as a spiritual healer. Following the controversy sparking images gaining attention on various platforms, there were claims in early 2020 that the pastor had been farting on his congregants.
Speaking to the Daily Sun, Penelope said that those spreading rumors about his healing process were not even present at the congregations. He claims that when he stands and sits on his followers, they do not feel pain. Instead, they start feeling better once he has sat on them.
The jury is still out on whether he actually does fart on his followers, Penelope confirmed that he sat on people but did not say much about the flatulence allegations. Other men of the cloth have condemned his actions. Pastor Jacob Sibiya from Kagiso condemned the act of sitting on congregants. He pointed out that nowhere in the bible is it said that sitting on people will heal them. Using harsher words, Bishop Miso Mabunda from Meadowlands said, “These are exactly the deeds the Bible warned us against.”
According to The South African, Penelope has also made congregants eat snakes to prove their faith. Even though he faces heavy criticism for his strange practices, he continues to gain popularity.
Another bizarre practice encouraged by an equally strange preacher is the practice of marrying the dead. Prophetess Mary Akatsa, the founder of the Jerusalem Church of Christ encouraged some of her female followers to remarry the corpses of their dead husbands in Kenya.
