Fernando Colunga is coming back to the small screen in the new Televisa production, "Pasión y Poder." Stateside, Univision will be premiering the telenovela on Tuesday, November 3, but we have the details of what happened during Episode 1. This is your warning to stop reading if you don't want to know what happens during the premiere. Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert! The first scene is extremely dramatic, we hear a woman crying going up the stars of a luxurious mansion, but we can only see her feet. Likewise, we have a man going after her and this doesn't end well. We then see a mirror break and the reflection of Julia (Susana Gonzalez) appears.
The next scene has Julia and Eladio (Colunga), seemingly happy and having lunch with another couple. They seem to be a perfect couple but things are just odd and iffy with them. We see the first glimpse of something terrible when the other woman asks Julia for her phone number. She makes up an excuse that she doesn't have a mobile phone because she doesn't really know how to use one. When Julia and Eladio get back home he makes a comment about doing a good job pretending. This is it, this marriage is a sham. During this exchange we are also introduced to the marriage formed by Nina (Marlene Favela) and Arturo (Jorge Salinas). She insists he buy her a new car, but he says she really doesn't need one and it's really expensive. She uses her womanly powers of seduction to bed him and the following day insists he buy her that vehicle.
Nina is a despicable woman because the following morning she wakes up and is making fun of one of her step children. She is not too fond of him as Arturo had him from a previous marriage. She only really cares for her daughters, one of them being Regina (Michelle Renaud) who is completely opposite to her. Regina is planning to get married to her boyfriend Joshua and is set to pick her wedding dress. When she shows it to her mom she completely makes a joke out of it saying it's way too simple. Nina wants her daughter to have a huge wedding with the most luxurious and beautiful dress. The outfit Regina picked is plain and doesn't live up to the Montenegro standards.
Julia wakes up by herself and misses her son dearly. She goes out to her balcony and has a cage with birds, she opens it up and encourages them to fly away. This pathetic scene is supposed to be symbolism with Julia being the bird trapped in a cage, which is her horrible marriage. Meanwhile Eladio just wakes up with a bad attitude, he wants nothing to do with anyone and gets mad at the housekeeper for not having his newspaper ready, now he had to read the news on the internet. Isn't that how everyone reads the news now? What a joke! He should be happy he is modernizing himself into the way people consume media now.
Julia's son David (José Pablo Minor) finally shows up and it seems like life has taken over her because her mundane marriage doesn't make her happy. He doesn't get along well with his father Eladio and David doesn't like the way he treats his mother. David asks Julia to leave with him, but she decides to stand by her husband. The two families cross for the first time when Regina runs into David after she runs out of the bridal shop when her mother destroyed her taste in fashion. The two will have another encounter when David has a motorcycle accident with Regina's soon-to-be husband. Eladio and Arturo are both after the same business and we see their rivalry, which will be the point of drama during this whole telenovela.
