A mother along with seven other teen girls barged into a classroom and beat up a 14-year-old girl in front of her friends and faculty.
The incident happened at the Southern Guilford High School in North Carolina on Tuesday, May 26.
In a video of the attack, the 37-year-old parent can be seen throwing several punches at the girl, alongside seven others, all between 16 and 18 years old. Six of the seven teens are students, according to the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office.
It was a planned attack, deputies said. One of the high school students let the group inside and led them to the classroom.
Investigators say the victim and a 16-year-old girl, who took part in the assault, were involved in a fight at a bus stop earlier. Tuesday’s incident is believed to be its retaliation.
"One of the students did show up with their parent — their mother came," deputies told WFMY. "So, she participated not only there just for support for her student, but actually, participated in the assault as well."
Deputies say three of the teens are students at the same school, while the other three go to a school in a neighboring district.
"To think that they would bring that type of activity to a school was very disturbing," said Capt. Brian Hall, the SRO captain for the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office.
"Instead of trying to help talk them down out of this, we found ourselves with a parent who actually participated in the assault," Hall said.
The group fled the scene after the assault, however, school authorities managed to detain them in the parking lot until deputies arrived.
The teen victim sustained minor injuries to her face. Emergency services transported her to a nearby hospital. She was treated for her injuries and was reported to be in stable condition.
The attackers were arrested and charged. Both adults are facing charges of assault, first-degree trespassing, and inciting a riot. All the minors are expected to be charged with juvenile petitions for assault.
Three of the students at the high school have been suspended from class until further notice.
