One of the most practiced holidays each and every year, Palm Sunday serves as a time for Christians to celebrate the arrival of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem. An event celebrated on the Sunday before Easter, this year’s celebratory date will be honored on Sunday, April 9. The reason Palm Sunday is practiced one week before Easter Sunday traces back to the accounts of the four canonical gospels. Since Jesus’ entry in Jerusalem occurred one week before his Resurrection, Palm Sunday is held the week before in order to honor and recreate the final days of Jesus Christ on earth. Practiced in various ceremonies on a yearly basis, the ‘Procession With Palms’ Gospel helps Christians remember the important acts that took place on the original day.
As Christians continue their holiday plans in anticipation of both Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday, here’s 10 quotes to help remember why Palm Sunday is recognized.
