oscars-2016-winner-predictions
The 88th edition of the Academy Awards is almost here and we're predicting the winners! Armando Tinoco

We’re ready for Hollywood’s biggest night, and for that we're predicting who will take the prized Oscars home and who will potentially get snubbed. While our predictions are mainly based on opinions, movie reviews and other awards, we're convinced the Academy will throw in a few surprises, just like they do every year.

It’s no secret that Alejandro González Iñárritu is one of the biggest front-runners once again for “The Revenant,” which is nominated for no less than 12 Oscars! We certainly think he will take the top prizes, and if Iñárritu were to snatch the Academy Award for Best Director, he would become only the third director in history to win an Oscar two years in a row (the other two being John Ford and Joseph L. Mankiewicz).

In addition, we think this will finally be the year Leonardo DiCaprio takes his Best Actor Academy Award home. Kate Winslet is also a frontrunner for Best Supporting actress, so we might just get the two “Titanic” stars together in the 2016 class photo, at last. Until then, here’s what two of our entertainment experts, Armando Tinoco and Natalie Roterman, think will happen:

We'll just say it's about damn time for this one:

  • Armando – Best Actor: Leonardo DiCaprio, “The Revenant”
  • Natalie – Best Actor: Leonardo DiCaprio, “The Revenant”

Based on previous awards and her powerful performance in the drama, Larson has the best chance of winning despite being a newcomer and competing against the queen herself, Cate Blanchett:

  • Armando – Best Actress: Brie Larson - “Room”
  • Natalie – Best Actress: Brie Larson - “Room”

Do we believe he’s getting the award? Yes. Do we think he’s getting it for his performance? No. Looks like some voters got hit by “Rocky” nostalgia and will hand the statue over to Stalone, but this should definitely go to one of the other nominees:

  • Armando – Best Supporting Actor: Sylvester Stallone – “Creed”
  • Natalie – Best Supporting Actor: Sylvester Stallone – “Creed”

In this case, based on previous awards, Armando’s is definitely the safer bet, but I believe Vikander delivered a much more powerful performance:

  • Armando – Best Supporting Actress: Kate Winslet – “Steve Jobs”
  • Natalie – Best Supporting Actress: Alicia Vikander – “The Danish Girl”

Except for the surprise at the PGAs, we have no reason to believe the Mexican director isn’t taking this home:

  • Armando – Best Director: Alejandro González Iñárritu, “The Revenant”
  • Natalie – Best Director: Alejandro González Iñárritu, “The Revenant”

Even though awards have been somewhat all over the place in this category, we think this movie has what it takes to win the top prize of the night:

  • Armando – Best Picture: “The Revenant”
  • Natalie – Best Picture: “The Revenant”

Another year, another Disney winner. This film has been at the top since day one, so we highly doubt it will leave empty-handed:

  • Armando – Best Animated Feature Film: “Inside Out″
  • Natalie – Best Animated Feature Film: “Inside Out″

Both films have gotten great reviews, which is the reason for Armando’s pick, but based on previous awards, my bet is on the PGA winner:

  • Armando – Best Adapted Screenplay: “Brooklyn”
  • Natalie – Best Adapted Screenplay: “The Big Short”

Two of the most powerful scripts of the category! Let’s see who gets it right:

  • Armando – Best Original Screenplay: “Straight Outta Compton”
  • Natalie – Best Original Screenplay: “Spotlight”

While Tarantino’s films are known for their outstanding cinematography (in this case by Robert Richardson), there is no doubt in my mind that this is going to Emmanuel Lubezki:

  • Armando – Best Cinematography: “The Hateful Eight”
  • Natalie – Best Cinematography: “The Revenant”

Both incredibly powerful (and pretty soul-crushing). I’m betting on "Amy," not just based on past awards but for the way it shook me and every person who's seen it:

  • Armando – Best Documentary Feature: “What Happened, Miss Simone?”
  • Natalie – Best Documentary Feature: “Amy”

Even though Lady Gaga is having a moment, I’m betting on my favorite song of the category and based on the Golden Globes, I think it stands a good chance:

  • Armando – Best Original Song: “Til It Happens To You” - “The Hunting Ground”
  • Natalie – Best Original Song: “Writings On The Wall” - “Spectre”

Bringing Enio Morricone back to work with him again, might have been one of Quentin Tarantino’s biggest scores (pun intended) in this film:

  • Armando – Best Original Score: “The Hateful Eight”
  • Natalie – Best Original Score: “The Hateful Eight”
