"Birdman" leads the Oscar nominations tied to "The Grand Budapest Hotel" with 9! Fox Searchlight Pictures

The nominations for the 87th Academy Awards are out and we couldn’t be more excited for Hollywood’s most anticipated prizes to be handed out. “Gravity” director Alfonso Cuarón and “Star Wars” director J.J. Abrams announced the first 12 nomination categories, followed by “Into the Woods” star Chris Pine and Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President, Cheryl Boone Isaacs who announced the other 12 categories, making this the first time all 24 categories were announced live. The most nominated González Iñárritu’s “Birdman” and Wes Anderson’s “Grand Budapest Hotel” with 9, followed by “The Imitation Game” with 8, and “Boyhood” with 6.

Some of the nominations (or lack thereof) were total surprises based on what we’d seen from past award shows and their lists of nominees. For instance, there was no mention of Angelina Jolie’s “Unbroken” in the bigger categories, “Whiplash” was nominated for best picture, Robert Duvall for best supporting actor in “The Judge” and “The Lego Movie” was not nominated for best animated feature film.

The ceremony will take place on February 22, hosted by everyone’s favorite, Niel Patrick Harris, so as Cheryl Boone Isaacs said, “See you at the Oscars!” but before that, check out the full list of nominees below.
