We still have a bit of time before the fairytale drama "Once Upon a Time" returns to ABC for its sixth season, but that has not stopped the co-creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis and the cast from revealing details regarding Season 6. Thus far, we have learned who will return to the series, what the plot will explore, and much more. Check out these five things you need to know about "Once Upon a Time's" coming season.
Different realms to be explored - While we do not know the plot, we do know the producers of the series are looking to explore outside of the Disney universe. According to Horowitz, Season 6 will see our heroes traveling to different realms.
"The paradigm for what Season six will be is a little bit different than what we’ve done the last few years, and we’re very excited by it," Horowitz teased to the Hollywood Reporter. “It involves our core group of characters, Storybrooke and flashing back to other realms. It doesn’t necessarily mean a journey to someplace else. I think at the end of the finale you’ll get a little bit of a taste of how we’re going to approach it — it’s both a little something old and something new.”
1. We may have a new magical baby! - Co-creators Horowitz and Kitsis have confirmed that Belle (Emilie de Ravin) and Rumplestiltskin's (Robert Carlyle) plotline will be explored more in Season 6. Chatting with The Hollywood Reporter, Kitsis said Belle potentially waking up from the sleeping curse and having their baby will be "dealt with next season."
2. We will see Maleficent and Lily again - In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, when asked if fans have seen the last of Maleficent (Kristin Bauer van Straten) and her daughter Lily (Agnes Bruckner), Horowitz teased: "Next season. Oh yeah, we’ll have plans. You’ll see, hopefully they’ll be great."
Kitsis joined in saying, "I’ll say this, we hear the fans. We know what stories you feel like we’ve dropped, and we’ve got an episode for you next year," before Horowitz concluded: "We’ve got some plans to try to address many of those things next season."
3. Hook and Emma to get married - Recent reports claim the coming sixth season of "OUAT" will see a magical wedding in Storybrooke with Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) tying the knot. If you recall in the finale, after the heroes arrived back from the Land of Untold Stories, Emma and Hook wander off to have a moment alone.
The pair share a kiss in front of a wedding dress display, which is a major sign of what is to come in the next season.
4. More Lana Parrilla - If you recall, the Evil Queen (Lana Parrilla) made her return at the end of Season 5. While her return is bad for the characters, it is also good for fans as they will see more of Parrilla. The 38-year-old actress will be playing dual roles in Season 6. It is a challenge that excites Parrilla, as she has to breathe life to two distinct characters — the Evil Queen and the more heroic Regina.
"So it's gonna be really fun to play both sides in a different way than I have in the previous five seasons 'cause I've always played two sides," Parilla explained to Entertainment Weekly. "She's always been both, but she's never been split."
5. Rumple and Belle to break up - According to Movie News Guide, the pair may eventually break up in the new season because she is tired of his wickedness. She has forgiven her again and again, but he keeps on failing her.
As Melty reports, Belle has finally gotten a hold off their situation. In fact, in the latter part of "Once Upon A Time" Season 5 she dosed herself into a sleeping curse to show Rumplestiltskin that she is done with his wickedness.
