An NYPD police officer assigned to the Special Victims Unit is facing backlash from her own colleagues for appearing as a stripper in a rapper's music video.

Detective Melissa Mercado, 28, has been serving in the NYPD's Bronx Special Victims Unit, handling cases of sexual violence, according to the Daily Mail.

In early 2022, she participated in filming for "Doin That," a music video by Long Island rapper S-Quire, in which she performed provocative dance moves in a strip club setting. The video, featuring explicit lyrics and suggestive scenes, was largely unnoticed until it gained viral traction in February.

The video, which amassed millions of views across platforms such as YouTube and Instagram, quickly spread within the NYPD ranks, with officers recognizing Mercado and sharing it amongst themselves.

Criticism from within the NYPD has been swift, with officers calling Mercado's actions "dumb" and "embarrassing" for the force.

"I really don't understand why this woman would do something that dumb," a detective told the Daily Mail. "We are supposed to be held to a higher standard as role models."

While she was not named in the footage, her social media presence—including racy photos under the alias "Honeybee"—helped confirm her identity. S-Quire, who claimed he had no idea she was a detective, describing her as a friend who volunteered for the video.

Following the viral spread, Mercado deleted her social media accounts. NYPD has yet to publicly comment on whether her actions violate department policy.
