Officials said two persons were killed in a shooting at a late-night birthday party in North Carolina on Mar. 13.
Deputies from the Robeson County Sheriff's Office stated they were called to the 1100 block of Jones Road in the Pembroke region of Robeson County on Sunday.
According to a Robeson County Sheriff's Office news release issued on Facebook, deputies arrived at the house in Pembroke to find a dead 20-year-old woman.
The Sherrif's Office said medical responders sent a 15-year-old teenage boy to a hospital in Chapel Hill. The young man died on Mar. 14 because of a gunshot.
Officials identified the woman as Randi D. Hunt, a 20-year-old Rowland resident. Meanwhile, investigators determined that the 15-year-old victim Hezachi Oxendine is a Purnell Swett High School student.
The Public Schools of Robeson County issued the following statement that WLOS obtained after learning about Oxendine's incident:
"The Public Schools of Robeson County family was saddened to learn about the tragic loss of two of our students. Ralph Clark of Lumberton Senior High School and Hezachi Oxendine of Purnell Swett High School passed away over the weekend. The Public Schools of Robeson County continues to express its deepest concern, support, and sympathy for those involved and affected by these tragic events. Please remember those impacted in your thoughts and prayers during the difficult days ahead."
Members of Hunt's community also expressed their condolences on the Facebook page. The fact that Hunt was a mother drew some attention from the community.
"Two families grieving including an infant who is now without a mother simply because of ignorance. Stray bullets have no names, please do better Robeson County," one person commented per a News Observer report.
Deputies did not provide any specifics or a motive for the shooting in the same Facebook post. Still, they did say that they have identified suspects in the investigation.
"As with a few previous shootings in this county, we have a crowd of people on scene that witnessed this act that need to come forward with the truth. Detectives have been out all night and are working the case as this release is prepared," police said per New York Daily News.
"The fact is, the truth will prevail in this case and suspects are known. DO NOT become involved in this case as an accessory before or after the fact. Simply come forward with the truth," the cops added.
The Robeson County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information about the case to call 910-671-3170 or 910-671-3100. They are still currently investigating the incident.
