Nintendo has officially given fans a launch window for the forthcoming NX console, debuting the device in March 2017, reports Kotaku.
According to a financial release from Nintendo, "For our dedicated video game platform business, Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform codenamed 'NX' with a brand-new concept. NX will be launched in March 2017 globally."
It is worth noting that the NX name is only a codename as the company mentioned in a tweet.
As to what kind of console the NX will be is still being kept under wraps by Nintendo. The gaming company's president Tatsumi Kimishima recently sat down with Nikkei and discussed the title. When asked what kind of console the NX will be he said, "At this current stage, I’m not able to say," Kimishima replied. "However, it’s not merely the successor to the handheld 3DS or stationary console Wii U. This will be hardware that’s been made with a new way of thinking. I’d like to announce more particulars regarding its specs and how it works another time this year."
Kimishima further went on to reveal the reason the Nintendo NX won't be out in time for the 2016 holiday season, saying the company wanted to make sure that the console had enough games at launch.
Meanwhile, fans looking for the NX at E3 2016 will be disappointed. Tokyo tech reporter at The Wall Street Journal, Takashi Mochizuki, recently tweeted that Nintendo will not bring the console to the the expo and will instead focus on the new "Zelda" title. Mochizuki tweeted, "1. No NX at E3. Will focus on new Zelda." Check out the tweet below:
The new "Zelda" game was announced back in 2015 and is now scheduled for a 2017 release. The new title is slated for both the Wii U and NX consoles.
