New pictures have leaked of a Luigi-themed Nintendo 2DS, suggesting Nintendo plans to follow a similar route with the 2DS that they have taken with the 3DS and release different models of the handheld device. Kotaku first broke the news when they weren't sent the linked photos by a reader, which revealed a green and white colored scheme with Luigi's figured carved into the bottom back of the console. Now would be the perfect time to announce a new 3DS model especially seeing Japan received a commemorative Nintendo 3DS XL Luigi-themed console this past July.

As you might expect the console is all white with green accents on the buttons and surround the side border. The console has a carved Luigi figure on the back of the device. Nintendo hasn't announced any special editions of the brand new handheld but it is in Nintendo's nature to deliver different and unique models of their devices. Such as the Japanese Luigi 3DS XL which has a various pastel colored Luigi's plastered all over the device like polka-dots or the two new "Pokemon X and Y" themed 3DS consoles.

Nintendo released the 2DS console earlier this month, giving perspective holiday buyers the option to pick up the cheaper version of the popular 3DS device. The smaller, non-flipping model is available for $129.99 in the U.S. Make sure to check out the leaked pics for the supposed Luigi-themed Nintendo 2DS model.

Do you think a Luigi-themed Nintendo 2DS would be cool? Do you even like the Nintendo 2DS or do you prefer the 3DS or 3DS XL?
