Mariachi music and Nintendo is not something you would think could go hand in hand. Well, think again. In this funny and oddly romantic video, a Mexican bride has arranged for a huge mariachi band to play the theme song from Super Mario for her groom. The result is pretty spectacular: the Nintendo theme song has never seemed quite so alive. We can just about imagine a little mariachi Luigi and a little Mario-achi dancing and jumping along to the tunes. Check out the video below!
According to CNet, "A video posted on YouTube a few days ago caused a sensation on Mexico's social networks and soon crossed the border. The video shows a mariachi band playing the famous song during a wedding, reportedly after the bride asked for it as a gift for her new husband." In fact the rumors haven't been confirmed and no one is exactly sure WHY the mariachis played the song. Nonetheless, it's great to see a very surprising and very Mexican adaptation of a video game classic.
Ever wondered about the origins of this tune? Here's what Wikipedia had to say: "The "Super Mario Bros. theme", officially known as the "Ground Theme" is a musical theme originally heard in the first stage of the Nintendo Entertainment System video game Super Mario Bros.. It was one of six themes composed for Super Mario Bros. by acclaimed Mario and The Legend of Zelda series composer Koji Kondo, who found it to be the game's most difficult track to compose. The theme has a calypso rhythm and usually receives a corresponding orchestration in games whose sound synthesizers can imitate steel drums."
