The bassist for the rock band Nine Inch Nails has decided to quit the band due to the group's overwhelming touring schedule. Eric Avery let fans of Nine Inch Nails know he was leaving by posting a message on Twitter and Facebook.

"It is with very mixed emotions I tell you that I'm pulling out of NIN," Avery writes. "I know it [has] been a tough call and I don't know if it's the right one. I really want to focus on my musical life here in L.A, on film work in particular."

The Nine Inch Nails bassist goes on to say how tough it can be to be away for long periods of time. "I just got overwhelmed," Avery writes. Talking about his pervious touring schedule with Garbage and what would have been an upcoming year long tour with Nine Inch Nails.

"I just got home from a year of heavy travel with garbage, the idea of leaving town for another year and a half and with all the intensity that nails demands...fortunately my Friend Trent understands all this and appreciated my pulling the plug now instead of deep into 2013 and 14."

"Go get em gentlemen," Avery said closing out his message.

Nine Inch Nails' fans left comments for the band's bassist some said how sad they were to hear Eric Avery was leaving the band. Other expressed support telling the Nine Inch Nails bassist they understand his decision.

Facebook fan Jim Hazel wrote to Avery saying,

"Fully understand, Eric recharge yourself and focus on you!"

"Do what is best for you. We will support you 100%."

Nine Inch Nails is not technically a rock group. The only official member of NIN according to allmusic.com is founder Trent Reznor. A biography of NIN from Rolling Stone says "Nine Inch Nails is a one man industrial rock band whose symphonic noise and intense, alienated lyrics have attracted millions."
