A 19-year-old Florida man was charged with manslaughter after he allegedly beat his father to death because of "a plate of food."

Julien Welch-Beddoe was "making 'a plate' (of food)" when his father confronted him to say "he didn't deserve to have it because he wasn't working," an affidavit obtained by People revealed. Welch-Beddoe was taking his plate to his bedroom when his father allegedly pushed him.

The teen then put his 45-year-old father, Francis Welch, in a chokehold and punched him two to three times in his stomach before the two grappled on the floor. Welch's fiancée then broke up the fight.

Welch returned to the couch but started turning yellow and became unresponsive within a few minutes.

Law enforcement arrived to transport Welch to a nearby hospital where he later died from a lacerated spleen that caused internal bleeding. He also suffered from three broken ribs, per People. Police added that Welch had a .391 blood alcohol content at the time of his death.

Welch-Beddoe was arrested and pleaded not guilty to one count of manslaughter. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 25th.
