Nicolas Ghesquiére has been named Artistic Director of Louis Vuitton and will be taking over the role from Marc Jacobs. The latter stepped down from his post in early October, which was widely expected as his contract was up in 2014. Jacobs left the position as he wanted to focus on his Marc Jacobs brand and possible IPO. "Louis Vuitton has always incarnated for me the symbol of ultimate luxury, innovation and exploration," Nicolas told WWD. "I am very honored of the mission that I am entrusted with, and proud to join the history of this great maison. We share common values and a vision."
The new Artistic Director of Louise Vuitton, Nicolas Ghesquiére, is the former Balenciaga Fashion Director who was ousted in favor of Alexander Wang late last year. The fashion house founded by Spanish designer Cristóbal Balenciaga had a legal dispute shortly after Nicolas' exit when he criticized the management. "There wasn't really any direction. I began to feel as though I was being sucked dry, like they wanted to steal my identity while trying to homogenise things. It just wasn't fulfilling anymore," the designer told System magazine. ""I never had a partner, and I ended up feeling too alone. Over the last two or three years it became one frustration after another. It was really that lack of culture which bothered me in the end."
