Nicki Minaj's created quite the controversy when she suggested that she might be voting Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

Minaj was featured on Lil Wayne's new release, Dedication 4.

"I'm a Republican voting for Mitt Romney / You lazy b----es is f---ing up the economy," the songstress rapped.

The lyrics had everyone up in arms and even President Barack Obama joined the conversation.

In an interview with Florida radio station, Power 95.3, Obama said he is not sure that's actually what happened.

"I think she had a song on there, a little rap that said that," Obama said. "But she likes to play different characters. So I don't know what's going on there."

Minaj is known for having several alter-egos, most popularly Roman Zolanski.

"That was probably Roman who did it," the president said jokingly.

Minaj has been noticeably silent about the controversy, but broke her silence after the president's interview.

"Ha! Thank you for understanding my creative humor & sarcasm Mr. President, the smart ones always do... *sends love & support*," the rapper tweeted to her over 14 million followers. "Awesome! Now I can tell my grandchildren that the 1st black President of the United States took the time to address a Nicki Minaj question."

Obama has said before that he doesn't "think" that his daughters, Sasha and Malia, listen to Minaj "that much."

"I don't think they really listen to Nicki Minaj that much," he said. "But let's face it, they are now hipper than me. There's a certain point where your kids get old enough where they're hipper than you are."

Obama said he and First Lady Michelle Obama have a nice Hip Hop collection on their iPods.

The president has always maintained that he doesn't pay much attention to jabs he gets from celebrities.

"One thing about being president or running for president - if you're easily offended, you should probably choose another profession," Obama said. "The truth is when it comes to music and movies, etc. Michelle and I just focus on who's good."
