Soccer players unite in anti-racial campaign #Somostodosmacacos or in English, “We are all monkeys” in response to the banana thrown at Dani Alves during Barcelona’s match against Villareal. While in the NBA, there have been racial controversy because of comments made by LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling, apparently in soccer as well. So in solidarity with Alves, different players around the league have shown their support by “all being monkeys.” Alves responded very well to the banana incident; he picked it up off the ground and took a bite out of it and surprised everyone present.
Neymar, Sergio Aguero, and other players took pictures with bananas and posted them and social media. They also used Twitter as the main source to demonstrate solidarity to Alves. Here are some of the tweets and how the players and different fans have used the hashtag #Somostodosmacacos.
