Before the madness of New York Fashion Week officially begins on Thursday September 4, queen of elegance, Carolina Herrera was honored by The Couture Council of the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology with its 2014 Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion during a luncheon at New York's Lincoln Center. Fans and friends of the Venezuelan-born designer like, Seth Meyers, Lucy Liu and Renee Zellweger joined the fashion elite of New York. Herrera told the EFE she is as proud of her personal accomplishments as she is of her great friendships in the industry, “This is not just another honor,” she said.
Other VIP attendants included Ivanka Trump, Lynn Wyatt, Amy Fine Collins, and fellow superstar designers, Ralph Lauren and Óscar de la Renta. Speeches about Herrera gave her closest friends and admirers a chance to gush over her talent and generosity. When introducing the honoree, Seth Meyers joked about his wife’s thrill when Carolina offered to make her wedding gown: ““It turns out getting a ring from me was less exciting than having Carolina pin her dress.” Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka also joined in on the compliments wearing a Carolina Herrera Resort 2015, “Carolina truly is a legend. Her designs evolve and continue to grow, they feel both timeless and contemporary. I love her as a person and as a friend. She’s an amazing mentor for women across the globe. No one is more deserving of this award.”
The designer mentioned how honored she was to receive the 2014 Couture Council Award, “I have great admiration for the Museum at FIT because it is a link between fashion, culture and the rich history of our industry.” Herrera will be presenting her latest collection at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York, on Monday, September 8.
