Big news "Dragon Ball" fans, big news! A new series has been revealed making it the first in 18 years. According to Anime News Network Toei Animation is working on a brand new "Dragon Ball" series, which will premiere in Japan in July on Fuji TV. Furthermore we know the name of the new series which will be called "Dragon Ball Super."
This news comes in the wake of the first "Dragon Ball" film theatrical release in 17 years, 'Resurrection F.' The details for the new series is limited but here is what we know so far: the show comes from "a story and character concepts" by Akira Toriyama, who happens to be the "Dragon Ball" and "Dragon Ball Z" manga that was adapted into the hugely-popular anime series.
According to Den of Geek, the new series is set a few years after the defeat of Majin Buu, and it's a relative time of peace on Earth. But you know that won't last. Based on this description, we gather that this show erases the Dragon Ball GT story, which was not part of the "Dragon Ball" manga and didn't do so well during its run in Japan.
However, the film, 'Resurrection F,' takes place after the Majin Buu saga, so this new series could continue where the movie leaves off. Fuji TV producer Osamu Nozaki revealed that an even bigger, stronger bad guy may be introduced in the new series.
“As I read the plot [of the series] I’ve already received from Akira Toriyama, my dreams for this begin to expand, ” said Nozaki. “An enemy even stronger than Buu or Freeza may appear …”
We will continue to update you on more info when it becomes available.
