A female Bond might soon grace the big screen if directors and producers take into account Pierce Brosnan’s advice to heart. According to the actor, it is high time that the next Bond will be a woman.
Brosnan looks at playing James Bond as his biggest achievement but does not have any preconceptions that it is a role that must only be played by a man. He saved the world a total of four times as the iconic character but believes that a woman should take on that character soon.
While rumors are currently circulating about Lashana Lynch being the next 007 in the “No Time to Die” installment, Brosnan expressed his wholehearted enthusiasm for the idea.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Brosnan gave a firm affirmation to the prospect of a female Bond. “Yes!' Brosnan answered when asked about it. "I think we've watched the guys do it for the last 40 years, get out of the way, guys, and put a woman up there. I think it would be exhilarating, it would be exciting,” he explained.
what he is not enthusiastic about however is the possible reactions of the current producers. He said he is doubtful that the current producers will even consider the idea. “I don't think that's going to happen with the Broccolis. I don't think that is going to happen under their watch," he said.
He also shared that the franchise should also be mindful of the #MeToo movement. “Without question, yes... The #MeToo movement has been relevant and significant and well needed in our society, so they'll have to address that,” he shared.
Whether or not the next Bond will be female will not take away the fact that this role was brought to life into perfection by Brosnan. It will not reach that far and stay in the minds of fans if not. The actor is also quite fond of the character himself. “James Bond has a certain significance and a deep pride. I will be asked about him until my dying days – it just goes with the territory. He's a beloved character,” he said. “I was honored to play the role and I rejuvenated a franchise that had been dormant,” he added.
If a female Bond pushes through, Cara Delevingne might be a good fit too. The 24-year-old model and actress said earlier this year that she is eyeing the role. She is confident that a female Bond will be as capable as a male Bond. "I want to be James Bond. Women do it just as well,” Delevingne said.
