Manchester United's Nemanja Matic explained the reason for trolling Cristiano Ronaldo on social media after posting a photo Thursday teasing his loss during training.
Matic's team defeated Ronaldo's team during their training game at Carrington. The Serbian player bragged about it on social media. When asked by club media what his post was about, Matic just laughed and responded, "Oh, nothing, just a simple thing. My team won but it was a very easy game for us today. Cristiano, his team won the game yesterday, but it was tight today - the score was 15-4!"
The photo showed Matic together with his fellow teammates with big smiles and good spirits posing for their celebratory shot. Matic shared the image with his two million followers with the caption "Winning team! @cristiano are you ok?" along with a laughing face emoji.
The Red Devils' players seemed to be in high energy as they gradually returned to training after a COVID-19 outbreak in the squad.
Manchester United have been preparing for their next Premier League match against Newcastle, Monday. In a pre-match press conference ahead of their Monday's game versus Newcastle, Ralf Rangnick confirmed that 25 outfield players were trained this week and that Man Utd should now be back at full strength except for injured Paul Pogba.
One of the most controversial incidents in the recent match was Ronaldo's challenge to Ryan Fraser, resulting in only a yellow card being dished out by referee Craig Pawson. After Ronaldo luckily escaped a red card after booting Newcastle United's Fraser, several fans expressed dismay. This led to social media debate pointing out the lack of consistency in the officiating across the Premier League this season. Other supporters claimed that Ronaldo's status as a legendary superstar added to his advantage.
Meanwhile, French player Allan Saint-Maximin put Newcastle in front with an exciting goal in the seventh minute, while Edinson Cavani leveled the scores. The draw leaves New Castle 19th with 11 points at the season's halfway stage, with one win so far. As for Manchester United, the team remains seventh and seven points adrift of Arsenal in fourth, although with two games in hand.
