Jerami Grant of the Detroit Pistons is expected to be a big name that NBA teams may explore. However, a recent update reveals that there has been little interest from other clubs to get the 27-year-old out of Motor City.
According to James L. Edwards III of The Athletic, pitches for the 6-foot-8 forward have not exactly been pouring in. A reason for that could be because he remains out due to a thumb injury, raising questions if the former second overall pick would be fit to play should he be acquired by another team.
The Pistons are reportedly set to enter rebuild mode and Grant, who signed a $60 million three-year deal with the Pistons in 2020, could be of better use to Detroit as a trade piece.
Several teams have been mentioned as a potential landing spot, including the struggling Los Angeles Lakers. Although he has improved immensely in the past seasons, it remains to be seen if he can sustain that with a star-studded roster.
Los Angeles may dangle a couple of young players in Talen Horton-Tucker and possibly Kendrick Nunn. If the Pistons are indeed rebuilding, THT and Nunn could be valuable pieces to place in the backcourt alongside Cade Cunningham.
Hence, Grant could be the loser if he is to be sent to Hollywood. Most know some players in the past who were doing good, only to see their stock dip for their inability to jive with LeBron James and company.
A clear example is Montrezl Harrell.
After great seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers from 2017 to 2020, the former NBA Sixth Man of the Year awardee hardly fit in with the Lakers during the 2020-21 season.
The 27-year-old big man’s numbers dropped and was hardly put to good use. After a forgettable season, Harrell recovered lost ground and is now doing well with the Washington Wizards.
Hence, Grant may not be a good fit for the Lakers who continue to struggle. If a deal does consummate, it may be in his best interest to seriously consider how long he should stay in Hollywood.
