The 2022 NBA Draft is a week away and movement of some players have started. The latest bit on the matter is that the Houston Rockets have sent Christian Wood to the Dallas Mavericks.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Rockets will be getting three players and the rights to the 26th overall pick of the 2022 NBA Draft. The three players were Boban Marjanovic, Trey Burke and Marquese Chriss per sources.
The working relationship between Wood and the Rockets soured a bit earlier this year. One of them was in January when Wood was benched by Rockets coach Stephen Silas. The reason for this is because the 26-year-old missed his COVID-19 testing window.
Aside from that, there was also an instance where Wood refused to re-enter the game in the second half after Kevin Porter Jr. an argument with a staff member and eventually left the arena. This resulted in him being suspended for a game.
Wood played in 68 games and averaged 17.9 points and 10.1 rebounds.
When he entered the NBA in 2015, Wood has performed well and shined. However, there are concerns on how he is in the locker room. He started his NBA career with the Detroit Pistons before unleashing his full potential with the Rockets.
“Lots of those guys who were drafted ahead of me aren’t in the league [anymore]. I’ve been to China, I’ve been cut, I’ve been told I wasn’t good enough. But I’m still here," Wood said to Yaron Weitzman of The Ringer in 2020.
For the Mavericks, the coming of Wood gives them another key piece for the 2022-23 NBA season. He addresses a missing void in the rotation of Jason Kidd, after making an impressive run in the NBA playoffs this season.
