On paper, the Utah Jazz seems to be sturdy enough to give other NBA teams a tough go heading into the playoffs. This is likely because they have Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert among the stars who are leading the charge.
And while Utah appears to have every position amply covered, there will always be room for improvement. It appears they want better power forward help.
Royce O’Neale has been manning the slot for the Jazz but the 28-year-old is considered as an only above-average defender. He is also hardly of help on offense, indicating that Utah could do better if they embark on an upgrade.
There are several names who the Jazz could consider as the NBA trade deadline approaches. Jerami Grant of the Detroit Pistons or Harrison Barnes of the Sacramento Kings could make sense.
According to Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer, the Jazz have discussed potential deals involving the two players with the Pistons and the Kings.
Whoever between the two the Jazz acquire could provide a big boost to the needs of the Jazz heading into the playoffs.
As of this writing, Utah is sitting at the fourth spot of the Western Conference standings with a 31-21 card. With things expected to get tougher from here on, head coach Quin Snyder will need all the help they can get.
It was not mentioned who the Jazz may have to give up for the trade to either player work. Joe Ingles has been suggested as a possible piece of the trade although this should be taken with a grain of salt for now.
The 34-year-old player suffered a season-ending ACL tear on Sunday, an untimely development considering he was playing out the last year of his contract with the Jazz.
According to reports, Ingles was already the topic of discussion for a potential trade with the Kings before the injury. It appears all those are now off the table and Utah will have to find other assets to offer.
