After a series of jumps and tries of returning to the NBA, the resilience of Isaiah Thomas may have finally paid off at least until the end of the 2021-22 season.
The 33-year-old has reportedly been signed by the Charlotte Hornets until the end of the season.
At the moment, the Hornets are at the ninth spot of the NBA Eastern Conference with a 35-36 win-loss record. They are also on a five-game winning streak, perhaps the right time to stick to the diminutive guard who continues to find ways to revive his NBA career.
With the Hornets, Thomas has played in seven games averaging 9.9 points, 2 assists and 1.3 rebounds. Although he finds himself sharing backcourt duties with the likes of LaMelo Ball and Terry Rozier around, the two-time All-Star has been able to provide quality minutes coming off the bench.
Since Thomas was signed, the Hornets racked up a 7-2 record.
In their last game, a win over the New Orleans Pelicans (106-103), Thomas saw action for 14 minutes and finished with 15 markers. It was his highest output since joining the Hornets last Mar. 2.
The Hornets are expected to make it to the play-in tournament for as long as they stay the course. Hence, head coach James Borrego needs all the help he can get.
Thomas, he had his best years with the Boston Celtics would provide not only his veteran smarts but also his ability to create on offense. He has been known to do this and can take over if the starters fail to deliver.
This is good news for Thomas even if his stint will only be assured up to the end of the current season. Come the summer, it remains to be seen if Isaiah Thomas mustered enough to capture the attention of other teams in need of a veteran guard.
