Andre Drummond continues to search for the right home since leaving the Detroit Pistons back in 2020.
He has had stints with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers and the Philadelphia 76ers. But as most know he is on his fourth team since his time with the Pistons after he was traded by the 76ers to the Brooklyn Nets as part of that Ben Simmons for James Harden trade at the deadline.
While most were focusing on how Simmons would fit in with the Nets, Drummond’s role has been overshadowed. The fact that Nets coach Steve Nash needs a big man was overlooked so it would be fair to expect that the two-time All-Star center will be utilized extensively for the rest of the current NBA season.
Aware of that, Drummond knows he has to work on his conditioning since he is now in a different scenario in Brooklyn.
“So from the moment I’ve got here, I condition in the morning and I condition after the game. So by the time the [All-Star] break is over, I should be back to normal again, just getting myself back in that speed and that mode again,” Drummond said in a report by the Post.
Drummond is a double-double machine but that hardly showed in Philly. A reason for that is that he saw action in just 18.4 minutes per game, backing up starting center Joel Embiid.
As far as production, the 9th overall pick of the 2012 NBA Draft managed to produce only 6.3 points, nine rebounds and two assists. These were lackluster numbers compared to his career numbers of 13.9 points, 13.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists.
He has already played in three games for the Nets and has slowly been improving on his stats this season. These are bound to improve and Nash sees big things ahead with Drummond at the center.
“We’ll see how it all pans out. We’ve had that center by committee for a little while now,” Nash said. “Andre brings a totally different look for us at center with his physicality, natural rebounding.”
