Espresso which literally means "quick in time" in Italian was a concept of coffee that made its debut in the 20th century, an era when the world was picking up pace and people had no time to wait.
The idea of espresso was to not make people wait for their favorite to-go beverage.
The ultra-caffeinated beverage is so popular that it's got its own national holiday. In the United States, Nov. 23 is marked as National Espresso Day.
