Denny Hamlin grabbed pole position for the FedEx 400 on a really hot and humid Delaware weekend.
"When I ran the lap, I wasn't in love with it," Hamlin said. "Fundamentally, I knew I didn't do that great of a job."
Rather than aim for outride speed, Hamlin opted for consistency as he fought on the slippy and greasy Dover track. Hamlin managed to post a 157.978 mph. the Dover pole will be his third pole of the season, which ties his career high.
The qualifying lap with enough to gap second on the grid Martin Truex Jr., and Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth. An impressive showing, the top four at the FedEx 400 are all Toyota drivers.
Ryan Newman (fifth) was the fastest Chevrolet; Brad Keselowski (eighth) was the fastest Ford.
