A FedEx employee has become an internet hero after intervening to prevent a potential package theft during his routine delivery in Hialeah.
The incident, which was recorded on a Ring doorbell camera and later shared on the "Only in Dade" social media account, occurred late Friday afternoon, According to NBC6,
The video ignited a flood of praise on social media, where users lauded the FedEx employee's bravery and swift response.
The footage shows a man wearing a gray hoodie and black shorts approaching the house and attempting to act as though the package was his, seemingly trying to deceive the delivery worker.
In the video, the FedEx driver is heard asking the man to open the door to prove that he actually resides at the home. As the situation escalated, the worker took out his phone to record the would-be thief.
"Who are you?" the driver inquires, then dares him to open the door to the house.
The homeowner, Anthony Peña, then digitally stepped in via his Ring camera, attempting to figure out what was happening at his doorstep.
Thanks to the driver being quick to confront, the attempted theft was thwarted, and the suspect fled the scene.
Peña expressed his gratitude to the FedEx worker and added that the driver knew the family well. He also told NBC6's sister station, Telemundo 51, "he did the right thing, you know, defended my property."
The Hialeah Police Department informed NBC6 that it has launched an investigation.
