“Nancy Drew” is the newest teen series that will arrive on The CW. This title has been around for almost nine decades, but it remained popular and the books are still being reprinted today. Last week, the cast and crew appeared at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con, and they talked about the TV adaptation of the iconic mystery book series and things to expect when the show premieres on Oct. 9.

The “Nancy Drew” panel at the SDCC consists of the executive producers — Noga Landau, Melinda Hsu-Taylor and Stephanie Savage — and the main cast members — Kennedy McMann (Nancy Drew), Leah Lewis (George), Maddison Jaizani (Bess), Alex Saxon (Ace) and Tunji Kasim (Ned Nickerson). They presented a preview of the first episode and later answered questions from the audience and eventually revealed some spoilers.

The upcoming TV series will tell the story of Nancy Drew, a remarkable teenaged detective who solves mysteries in Horseshoe Bay, Maine, her hometown. She has plans of going to college, but everything changed when her mother died. And she stopped her crime-solving activities as well.

While working her way for a chance to a re-apply to college, a socialite was murdered, and unfortunately the police considered her as a prime suspect because she was the one who found the body first. She was accused along, with four other teens who were also at the crime scene, so together they must prove their innocence.

As the group looks for ways to clear their names, they found more mysteries along the way, and this made things more complicated for them. Nancy Drew eventually discovered that the murder is connected to an old crime that involves supernatural activities in her town.

Nancy Drew is based on the popular books authored by Carolyn Keene, but the producers clarified to Vulture that the stories in the TV series will not exactly be lifted from the author’s printed work collection. This means that the viewers should not expect tales like “The Mystery At Lilac Inn” but rather expect reinvented stories to make them suitable for the modern times.

“Nancy Drew” may potentially come to Netflix, but there’s no confirmation about it yet. If the mystery drama is indeed coming to the streaming site, it is likely to be published once the series completed its run on The CW.
