The murder of 16-year-old Tylee Ryan and seven-year-old Joshua Vallow drew attention after the children’s mother was indicted for their murder last month. Lori Vallow and her husband Chad Daybell were charged with conspiracy, murder and grand theft. The couple also faced charges for the murder of Chad’s wife Tammy Daybell. Further investigation led to Lori being charged for conspiring to murder Charles Vallow.
A long list of suspicious deaths surrounds the relationship between Lori and Chad. While Lori has two deceased former partners, Chad’s wife Tammy died just weeks before he married Lori. Tammy’s death had initially been ruled as death by natural cause. Tylee’s father also reportedly died of natural causes. Charles, however, was fatally shot by Loir’s brother Alexander Cox.
ABC30 reported that on July 11, 2019, months before the children’s death, Charles was killed in the suburbs of Chandler, Phoenix, Arizona. Tylee had told the police that on the day of the incident Charles had been fighting with Lori. To defend her mother the teen tried to scare off her step-father with a baseball bat. Charles reportedly snatched the bat from the teen.
Cox came to his sister’s defense and tried to fend off Charles. Charles hit Cox on the back of his head with the baseball bat. Cox claimed that to protect himself he shot and killed Charles. An investigation conducted by police in Arizona proved that Lori had been conspiring to murder Charles with Cox. Maricopa County Arizona Attorney’s Office stated that either of the two was supposed to kill the victim, New York Times reported.
Lori might also face charges for the death of Joshua Ryan, Tylee’s father. Even though initial reports claimed that he died of natural causes, his death is also being investigated, Arizona Central reported. Joshua’s sister Annie Cushing had stated that Lori justified murder through Bible scriptures. Both Chad and Lori seemed to believe that doomsday was fast approaching. Before Tammy’s death, the couple claimed that she had been possessed by a spirit. They also seemed to believe that Lori’s children were zombies.
The couple was set to appear in court together. A psychiatric evaluation of the 47-year-old woman deemed her unfit for trial. Prosecutors are contesting the stay order based on the evaluation.
