Criminals will always find a way to escape, especially if they are found guilty. In the case of 22-year-old Lane Taylor, that has yet to be done. But with his recent actions, it appears he is indeed proving to authorities of being behind the killing of a 52-year-old man last November.

Taylor was being transported to the Lake County jail where he was scheduled to be booked. However, the 22-year-old found a way to escape as he was being transported to the county jail. Taylor somehow convinced the driver of the prisoner van to make a strange stop at a McDonald’s located at the 35th Street and Grant Street in Gary, The Indiana Times reported.

Taylor was flown into the Chicago O’Hare Airport with a transport company, REDI Transports, commissioned to pick him up and bring him to Lake County, Indiana. He was in handcuffs, a belly chain and a leg brace at that time per the Lake County Sheriff’s office.

He convinced the driver of the van to make a short stop at the fast-food chain, apparently hungry. He requested the driver to roll down the window so he could remove a protective mask and spit out the window. When the REDI driver complied, it was all the opening that Taylor needed to make his unusual escape. He jumped out of the open window and fled.

From here, there are a lot of loose ends. Considering he was chained and wearing a special leg brace, questions on why he was not restrained are being raised.

“For some reason, it didn’t work properly,” the sheriff said.

Hence, authorities are now on the prowl to hopefully recapture Taylor. He was described as a black man standing 6-feet tall and weighing around 162 pounds. He has hazel eyes and brown hair per the police.

At the time of his escape, Taylor was wearing a gray hoodie with an additional black hoodie underneath. He also had black Puma tennis shoes on and was wearing black jeans.

Taylor is accused of murdering Daniel Nitzsche last Nov. 19. The 52-year-old native of Chicago was robbed and shot in an alley in the 700 block of West 150th Street before passing away at the St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago.

Before that, Taylor has been tied to other cases in the past. This includes five armed robbery charges in 2018 and sticking a gun to a man’s face as he was taking his 2-year-old child out of the back seat of a car.
