One of the telenovelas that Univision announced at their annual Upfront event this year was "Mujeres De Negro." At the time, the soap had not started production, nor did it have a cast attached. This week, Televisa held a press conference where producer Carlos Moreno presented the three women who will drive this dark telenovela based on the Finnish series "Mustat Lesket."
Alejandra Barros ("La Sombra Del Pasado"), Mayrín Villanueva ("Mi Corazón Es Tuyo") and Ximena Herrera ("El Señor De Los Cielos") are the protagonists of "Mujeres De Negro." They will be joined by three heartthrobs: Francisco Gattorno, Alexis Ayala and Mark Tacher.
Barros will give life to Jackie, wife of Lorenzo (Gattorno), a man that has abused her physically and emotionally for years. Villanueva will portray Vanessa who is married to Julio (Ayala), a man who has been involved in dubious business practices and has endangered the life of his wife and son Diego. Herrera's character is named Katia, who is married to Nicolás (Tacher), a depressed man who has tried to commit suicide on numerous occasions.
"Mujeres De Negro" features strong female characters who develop a radical plan to take control of their lives. Jackie, Vanessa and Katia have had enough of being taken advantage of and have joined together to kill their husbands and seek out new adventures. Finally free, the ladies did not expect that these new adventures would include close calls with both the criminal justice system and the criminal world. This dramatic tale will use dark humor to answer the age-old question: Is it possible to start again? And if so, at what cost?
"Mujeres De Negro" will consist of 50 episodes and start airing in Mexico in August. Stateside, Univision will broadcast the telenovela in a date and time still to be announced.
