The mother of a "loving and generous" 16-year-old boy who was allegedly murdered over a pair of headphones at a western Sydney home has made an emotional plea for justice to be served.
Jason Galleghan died at the Westmead Hospital on Aug. 4, from serious injuries to his head and chest after he was allegedly lured into a Doonside house, on Perigee Close and bashed by a group of teenagers.
19-year-old Kayla Dawson, four teenage boys aged between 13 and 15, and a 15-year-old girl were charged with his murder.
Dawson's 29-year-old boyfriend, Harley Bartolo, was arrested earlier this month and charged with being an accessory after the fact.
Investigators on Tuesday released CCTV footage of two men they want to speak to in relation to the teen’s death.
Both men can be seen wearing hooded jumpers, with cell phones in their hands, walking near the home on Perigee Close about the time of the fatal assault.
"Police are particularly interested in speaking with the two individuals who may have been walking in the vicinity of the home on Perigee Close, around the time of the fatal attack," Superintendent Steve Egginton said, The Guardian reported.
"I urge anyone with information, no matter how insignificant you believe it to be, to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers."
Speaking publicly for the first time, Jason’s mother Rachel Galleghan said she was still coming to terms with the untimely loss of her son.
"This is still something that I can’t believe has happened," she told reporters.
"Jason was such a kind person with such a happy spirit. He was loving and generous and helpful to his sisters and to his family and friends."
"I was so proud of the young man that Jason was, I couldn’t have asked for more from a son."
"It’s just so utterly devastating and heartbreaking that his future was taken away from him far too soon. We have all lost the biggest part of us that can never be replaced."
Rachel also thanked the community of Doonside for their unconditional support and urged them to keep fighting for Jason "so that justice is served".
