Mother Smashes Son's Head With Stone To End Abuse

A 57-year-old mother smashed her son's head with a stone during a heated argument over his alcohol addiction.

The victim, identified as 36-year-old Sivakumar, a construction worker, was found dead Friday, Aug. 13, at his home in Periyankuppam, near Ambur in Tirupattur district of Tamil Nadu, India.

Police officers responded to the home and located the victim lying in a pool of blood.

The body was recovered and sent to a medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.

The police registered a case and began an investigation. Higher officials including the Tirupattur District Superintendent of Police, CP Chakraborty, and Ambur Deputy Superintendent of Police, Saravanan visited the crime scene.

The victim’s family members were questioned during which his mother confessed to the killing.

However, during the preliminary investigation police officers could not locate the murder weapon.

According to the police, the suspect, Rajeshwari was upset over her son’s alcohol addiction. The victim often picked up fights with his mother after coming home drunk. He used to allegedly beat her up in front of his wife and children.

He was also facing several criminal charges including harassing neighbors and causing damage to public property, police said.

On Thursday, Sivakumar came home in an inebriated state and engaged in a heated altercation with his mother.

Rajeshwari told police that she was fed up with his tantrums and wanted to put an end to the verbal and physical abuse.

So she grabbed a stone and smashed it on his head while he was asleep. She then cleaned the stone and threw it away, police said.

The mother has been arrested and remains in police custody.

In a similar but unrelated incident, a 65-year-old father surrendered to the police after hammering his drunk son to death. The July 27 incident happened in the Perur Chettipalayam area of Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu, India

The father had been operating a restaurant from a rented building for the last two years. The business was severely affected due to the coronavirus pandemic and the nationwide lockdown that followed.

The building owner had asked the man to vacate the building as he had failed to pay rent for quite some time.

While he was attempting to vacate the building his 33-year-old son, who came there in an inebriated state, opposed the move as the same wasn’t discussed with him.

During the argument, the son assaulted his father and slammed him onto the floor. In a fit of rage, the father grabbed a hammer and bludgeoned his son to death.

The father was arrested after he went to the nearest police station and confessed to the killing.
