15-Year-Old Girl Chokes Mother With Karate Belt, Tries To Make It Look Like Suicide

A 15-year-old girl allegedly strangled her mother to death with a karate belt after a heated argument over her studies, police said.

The death, which the teen initially tried to pass it off as a suicide, happened on July 30. However, the autopsy results confirmed it to be a murder.

"There was an argument at home with the mother coaxing her daughter, who just cleared her SSC exams, to study well and take up a medical course, but the girl resented it and resorted to the extreme measure," Investigating officer of Rabale Police Station, Assistant Police Inspector Dinesh Patil said.

According to investigators, on July 30, during the heated argument, the girl pushed her mother, who fell onto the ground and suffered serious trauma injuries, said another Investigating Officer, Avinash Mahajan.

After that, the teen grabbed a karate belt and allegedly choked her injured mother to death. She then dragged her mother’s body into the bedroom and laid her on the bed.

It is unclear if the teen’s 7-year-old brother was at home at the time of the incident.

In an attempt to pass off the crime as a suicide, the teen later sent out a message to her maternal uncle from her mother's cellphone, claiming her mother had locked herself inside the bedroom, police said.

After the autopsy results proved a murder, the teen was taken into custody for questioning. Following a week-long investigation, the teen finally confessed to a lady constable that she had killed her mother.

"The girl has admitted to the crime after a heated quarrel when she was in anger on July 30. Even the post-mortem report has confirmed that the cause of death was due to strangulation and the head injuries," Patil said.

The teen has been detained in police custody. She will be produced before a Juvenile Board soon for further legal procedures, the police said.

In a similar but unrelated incident, a 16-year-old girl from the Faridabad district of Haryana, India, allegedly murdered her mother with the help of her 18-year-old boyfriend who reportedly gave her instructions over a video call.

According to police, the incident took place on the intervening night of July 10 and 11. The exact cause of death is unclear at this time.

During the investigation, authorities learned that the victim reportedly opposed her daughter’s relationship and had asked her to stay away from the boy.

Enraged by her mother’s disapproval the teen couple decided to get her out of their way.
