Mónica Spear's last project on television was in the telenovela "Pasión Prohibida" where she co-starred with Rebecca Jones, Roberto Vander and Jencarlos Canela. The latter wrote on Twitter, "I am without words. I will miss you friend. And to my lovely and beautiful Maya, I love you. You are not alone!" Monica's 5-year-old daughter was the sole survivor of the apparent assault suffered by both of her parents after they were returning from vacation in Venezuela. The incident happened on the Puerto Cabello-Valencia highway in Venezuela on Monday night when they were involved in an accident. Police reports state that unknown assailants approached the vehicle and attempted to assault the family, when they failed they shot the couple to death with Maya receiving only a wound on her leg from a shot.
Roberto Vander who also co-starred with Spear wrote, "I am shocked and without words, only tears of saddness and anger. May you reast in peace my dear Monica Spear." Roberto Manrique who worked with her on "Flor Salvaje" said, "Moni, may all the light that you left in this world take you with peace to your destination. You are in my heart and everyone elses." Venezuela actress Norkys Batista was also in that production and wrote, "My good companion, a year together in Colombia worried about our children and now Mayita is alone."
Mónica Spear was Miss Venezuela in 2004 and went on to compete for Miss Universe in 2005. Fellow beauty pageant winner Alicia Machado, said, "Constant and silent crying is what millions of Venezuelans do from the chaos and darkness we live in. R.I.P. Monica Spear." Adamari Lopez added, "Moved with the terrible news of the death of Monica Spear. Strenght for all of her family... Blessings for her daughter Maya." Fellow actress Catherine Siachoque wrote, "What an inmense pain, what an outrage for the death of Monica Spear." Her husband Miguel Varoni also weighed in, "What great pain! We are going to miss you Monica Spear."
More Telemundo actresses reacted to the shocking death on Twitter like Litzy, "I have no words to express what I feel. Impacting and absolute sadness." Marlene Favela wrote, "With profound sadness, I protest violence." Adriana Fonseca added, "What sad and terrible news, what happened with Monica Spear and her husband. She will always be in our hearts."
