A second suspect has been reportedly arrested in connection to the fatal shooting of Los Angeles drill rapper Moneygang Vontae in Bronx pharmacy.
According to the police, Wednesday, Isiah Garrett, 24, has been arrested for the June 9 killing of Avanti Frowner, 27, also known under the stage name Moneygang Vontae.
Garrett is a resident of Morris Heights in the Bronx. He is charged with murder and awaits arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court. The arrest was followed after that of River Jones, 18, who was picked up by the New York City Police Department (NYPD) Bronx warrant squad at Monroe College in New Rochelle, where he attended school. He was also charged with murder. Jones was held without bail following an arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court.
Moneygang Vontae is a drill rapper from Los Angeles who previously resided in Chicago. Vontae was in the city with a friend looking for locations to film a music video when they stopped at the Amazing Community Pharmacy on E. Tremont Ave. near Arthur Ave. in Tremont to buy over-the-counter eye drops. Two of the suspects approached, offering some put. However, the rapper declined to purchase weed from the two men, who gathered three others to ambush Vontae and his friend in the shop.
In the surveillance footage obtained by the New York Daily News, an attacker pulls Vontae to the ground as the three other men enter the store and pile on top of him while the drug store employees run to hide. One of the men hits Vontae over the head with a long umbrella. One of the men struggles with a gun before he hits the rapper and leaves him on the floor of the pharmacy bleeding, the suspect fires another shot into his chest before he flees the scene with the "Moneygang Vontae" nameplate from his neck. It was not confirmed if the suspects knew who Vontae was.
Emergency medical services (EMS) rushed Vontae to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He began making music when he was still in high school and was encouraged by his family, older brother and cousin to make his passion into a career.
