The deaths of a model from Los Angeles and her architect friend have been confirmed to be a homicide on Friday, April 1, after an autopsy revealed multiple drugs in their system that may have led to their deaths.
Twenty-four-year-old model Christy Giles and her 26–year-old friend Hilda Marcela Cabrales-Arzola both reportedly died from “multiple drug intoxication,” with Cabrales-Arzola also dying from organ failure that could’ve been prompted by the fatal cocktail of drugs, according to People.
Among the drugs found in Giles’ body were cocaine, fentanyl, ketamine, and a known date rape drug. Cocaine, MDMA, and other unidentified drugs were found in Cabrales-Arzola’s system during the autopsy.
The two were brought to two different hospitals on Nov. 13, 2o21 by masked men driving a black Toyota Prius who proceeded to dump their bodies just outside the entrances of the health facilities. Giles was pronounced dead immediately, while Cabrales-Arzona died a few days later, the New York Post reported.
An investigation by the police resulted in the arrest of three individuals: 40-year-old David Pearce, who is being charged with manslaughter, and his two friends Michael Ansbach and Brandt Osborn, who have both been accused of being accessories to manslaughter, though no charges have been filed as of press time.
Pearce was also charged with sexually assaulting four women between 2010 and 2020, to which he has pled “not guilty” but has prompted the local District Attorney’s Office to argue that he be held with a $3.4 million bail.
“He frequently drugs women and sexually abuses them,” Deputy District Attorney Catherine Mariano said. “I do believe he poses as a threat to the public and is a flight risk. Upon his arrest, he did try to flee and ran out the back door.”
As the investigation into the case continues, Giles’ husband Jan Chilliers feels relief at the capture and arrest of the three men who may have killed his wife and her friend, but he also understands that the road to a conviction may not be as straightforward as he wants it to be.
“I know that I have to be strong, and I'm going to do everything that I can to make sure that my wife gets the justice she deserves, even though no amount of justice is ever going to bring her back to life, and she's still going to be gone,” he said.
