A 16-year-old girl with physical disabilities was allegedly raped by her 40-year-old physiotherapist for over a year at his clinic in suburban Santacruz, Mumbai, India.
The minor victim suffers from speech impairment and other physical disabilities, authorities said.
According to the police, the accused has allegedly been sexually assaulting the teenager for more than a year whenever she visited his clinic.
However, the alleged crime came to light only last week when the victim sent a text message to her parents, narrating her ordeal.
Her shocked parents approached the police on Thursday, Oct. 21 and filed a complaint against the therapist.
Investigators spoke to the minor girl who revealed details of the offence to the police, an official said.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the accused allegedly used to rape the minor girl whenever she would visit his clinic. Her parents, who waited outside the physiotherapist’s cabin, were reportedly unaware of the crime, police said.
The investigators also obtained leads indicating that the accused has committed a similar offence on other children also.
Based on the complaint by the victim’s parents, the police nabbed the accused from his clinic, the India Today reported.
He has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 376 (rape), and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the official said.
The accused was later produced before a local court and has been remanded to police custody for seven days. A further probe is underway, a police official said.
In a similar but unrelated incident, a 19-year-old food delivery boy has been nabbed for allegedly sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl on the terrace of her building on Oct. 5, while he delivered orders in Mumbai, India.
The accused, identified as Lokchandan Sahu, who works as a delivery boy for a Chinese restaurant, reportedly molested and forced himself on the victim on the terrace of the victim's building while he was delivering an order at her home.
Sahu reportedly noticed that the girl was alone in her apartment at the time of his delivery. He asked the child to step out of the flat as he asked for directions for his next location address. However, he manhandled the girl and forcibly brought her to the terrace where he mounted his despicable advances.
“We have arrested the accused based on the description and details provided by the survivor,” a senior inspector at the police station said.
The police officers have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 376 (rape) and 377 (unnatural offences) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and appropriate sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
