Miley Cyrus has skyrocketed into the pop culture spotlight since her infamous bleach blonde pixie haircut. Since the style overhaul, the former Disney child star is shedding her skin and clothes and breaking into the adult pop world like a “Wrecking Ball.” If you haven’t yet heard her two singles “We Can’t Stop” and “Wrecking Ball” then, quite frankly, you live under a rock. The 20-year-old pop star has taking the world by storm in anticipation of her album release, “Bangerz” drops on October 8, most notably at the MTV Video Music Awards.
Cyrus shocked fans, critics and Smilers alike during her raunchy performance with “Blurred Lines” singer Robin Thicke. And while the world collectively sighed during her performance which brought back the foam finger from extinction, Cyrus planned for it all. During the documentary entitled, “Miley: The Movement” Cyrus explains “You’re always going to make people talk. You may as well make them talk for like two weeks rather than two seconds. You can watch that performance and think that’s a hot mess. But it’s a strategic hot mess. … If I wanted a raunchy sex show, I wouldn’t have been dressed as a damned bear.”
The MTV made documentary follows Cyrus for about 4 months prior to her album release, which is set to drop next week. In the film, Cyrus provides many intimate interviews where she gives the audience a seemingly true glimpse into her life and her transition from “Hannah Montana” into the twerking, tongue wagging Miley we know now. This transition and her new artistic persona is something she defines as “the movement” with her loyal army of Smilers supporting her each step of the way. Another supported, is Cyrus’s producer and mentor Pharrell Williams. He explains, "The world thinks that they know this girl, but my thing to you is, don't be fooled."
Unsurprisingly fans will not see ex-fiancé Liam Hemsworth make an appearance in the intimate documentary. Cyrus and Hemsworth publicly called off their engagement on September 16, but it seems that the couple was separated or at least strained way before that. The lack of her fiancé within the intimate documentary of the transitional year is notable and quite glaring. "We just decided to focus on the music and professional side," said Dave Sirulnick, executive producer of the project and EVP of MTV News and Docs. "We were not doing a documentary about anything in her personal life."
One personal relationship that is heavily documented is Cyrus’s deep connection with her mother and manager Tish Cyrus. Tish is seen throughout the documentary assisting her famous daughter each step of the way, from home life, to rehearsals, to performance, her mother is right by her side. Cyrus seems to enjoy the loving relationship she shares with her mom stating, "My mom is my homie," Miley Cyrus says. "If I win, she wins — not because she's my manager; because she's my mom."
Check out the trailer for “Miley: The Movement” and tune in to MTV tonight, Oct. 2 at 10 p.m. to watch the intimate documentary.
