Four Mexican men were stopped by the police when they were speeding at the intersections of Privada Sanders and Ramón Alcázar streets, in the San Antonio neighborhood, in Downtown Juárez. Two of the men allegedly tried to bribe officers with 800 pesos, or about $60, to avoid being arrested and continue their course "because they were out partying," police said. The police proceeded to search the car and realized one of the passengers was dead.

According to reports, the men told police they had been partying for a few days and maybe because of all the drugs and alcohol they had consumed, their friend “probably lost his life for abusing these substances.” Elián Hernández Palacios, 26; Roberto Israel Muñiz Padroz, 26; and José Ángel Hernández Poblano, 25, were arrested and charged with failure to give assistance and attempted bribery. While two of the men had no previous record, Hernández Poblano had a record for violent burglary.

Arturo Sandoval, spokesperson for the DA’s office, revealed that the cause of death of the other friend has not been established. He added that the autopsy revealed no signs of violence, and that the man had passed away in less than 24 hours before the recovery, which is consistent with the first statement of the detainees. They have to wait for a toxicology report to determine the type of drug he consumed and if in fact an overdose was the cause of death. Bail terms for the three men were not immediately available
