Ana Beatriz Várguez and Angel Isaac Chan Pech fulfilled one of their biggest dreams as a couple by getting married in the depths of a cenote. The young couple of marine biologists arrived just in time to get dressed for the ceremony: she wore a formal white wedding dress and he wore a suit. Of course, both of them also had to wear neoprene and scuba gear in order to stay under the water!
The wedding took place in a cenote - one of thousands of deep, fresh-water caves in the Mexican state of Yucatan. The couple reached a depth of about eight feet and once there they exchanged oxygen supplies, swapping nozzles and made a sort of light show with lamps that symbolized their commitment to nature and the deities of the Mayan World, according to Mexico's Televisa.
"That was the most special point of the ceremony, as the exchange regulator symbolizes that through our marriage we will be willing to support each other for the rest of our lives," said Angel. "Then we ascended under an arch and, accompanied by other divers, began a tour around the cenote, an act which symbolized how we will continue to seek company and have the support of friends as a couple," he added.
