An exclusive video from Mercedes-Benz lets you into the belly of its mighty skunkworks facility known as AMG. Home to the powerful handbuilt V8 and V12 hammers that put Thor's to shame, the AMG headquarters is located at a nondescript complex in the middle of Affalterbach, Germany. One could easily walk past its facility and be none the wiser.
However, the fact of the matter is everything AMG comes exclusively from this secluded plot of land. Enter its enormous lobby and you'll be greeted by a range of AMG vehicles showcased on the main floor.
In this video, Mercedes-Benz reveals the very conference rooms, design halls, and workspaces that the 800+ AMG engineers and designers occupy to work their magic. Mercedes-Benz engineers develop vehicle components such as brakes, steering, suspension systems, and gearboxes exclusively used for AMG vehicles.
In the engine development workshop, handbuilt engines are produced and prototype powerplants are tested. Test engines undergo extensive AMG scrutiny for up to 800 hours before they are approved for production. Sweating the details, engines in production are tested as well.
Naturally, prototype testings and shakedowns are also conducted at the AMG headquarter. Weighed and measured, the prototypes are then sent to the far corners of the world to face both extreme hot and cold weather tests to ensure durability.
What's more, the video also offers us a glimpse of the luxurious facilities available to AMG's valuable clientele.
