Enrique 'Kike' Plancarte, one of the key leaders of the powerful Knights Templar cartel was shot dead during a confrontation with marines in the municipality of Colón in the state of Querétaro. The drug kingpin took refuge inside the town’s local church before fleeing inside a building on the street of Prolongación Puebla, where the final shoot out took place. After the events, his daughter, singer Melissa Plancarte, known as Barbie Grupera, took it to her Facebook to express her feelings.
"God is perfect and he does not make mistakes: things happen for a reason and we must always stand tall, those who do not understand suffering and only engender more violence, may God bless you!" She posted on her wall. She recently spoke to Radio Fórmula, and opened up about the death of her father more directly. “I’m still the same person. Obviously my dad’s passing hurts. We knew it was going to happen anytime, but we weren’t prepared for that.”
After his death, Melissa, who lives in the United States, went back to Mexico for her dad’s funeral. “I really wanted to see him. Unfortunately it was under these circumstances.” She stressed that she hadn’t seen him in many years and before that, when they spent time together, she didn’t know her father was involved with drug dealing. “I didn’t know he was doing that, but you grow up and realize certain things. No one is here forever. We’re all going where he is. He paid his dues and later it’ll be our turn.”
Barbie Grupera added that she will carry on with her artistic career and will continue working on a tour around several places in the United States such as New York, California, Texas and Chicago, that will kick off at the beginnings of May. “I’m very hurt, but gotta keep on going,” she said.
