Meghan Markle reportedly kept a secret on her wedding day to Prince Harry that Kate Middleton wasn’t able to keep when she wed Prince William years earlier.
On the “Royals” podcast, royal commentator Angela Mollard spoke about Meghan’s stunning Givenchy wedding gown and said that the Duchess of Sussex was able to keep the identity of her chosen designer and the style of her dress a secret from her husband and the royal fans.
“There was so much discussion about who it was going to be — we thought it was going to be Ralph & Russo,” she said. “Kate hadn’t managed to keep Alexander McQueen’s Sarah Burton a secret,” Mollard added.
The Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress design was a surprise on the day itself but her designer from the fashion house had already been leaked to the media beforehand. But when reporters tried to confirm the leaked information about Kate’s dress designer, a spokesperson for the Clarence House refused to confirm the rumors.
Meanwhile, Mollard also weighed in on Meghan’s wedding dress style and said that she loved it even though some experts criticized it because it didn’t seem like a good fit for the former actress. “I just loved the silhouette; it was very old-school Givenchy,” she gushed “I’ve never seen a more beautiful wedding dress in official photographs.”
Another highlight for Mollard during Prince Harry and Meghan’s royal wedding on May 19, 2018, was the fact that Sarah Ferguson was there. The Duchess of York was not invited to Prince William and Kate’s nuptials on April 29, 2011. According to the royal commentator, seeing Ferguson at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle felt inclusive and kind.
Despite Mollard’s praise, body language expert Judi James said on “Pod Save The Queen” that Ferguson looked insecure and vulnerable at the royal wedding. Prince Andrew’s ex-wife also had to walk into the chapel by herself, and this was very touching. According to James, Ferguson clearly did a good act of lowering her own status since she is no longer an official member of the royal family.
